My area of research has been concentrated on the development of mathematical and statistical models to study
the dynamics of HIV infection and to forecast the future trends of the AIDS epidemic.
The study of AIDS epidemiology since its early stages has represented a challenging statistical task,
due to peculiar features of the observed data. Statistical models, mainly back-calculation models, have been used
to reconstruct past HIV trends and future AIDS figures.
At present, my scientific research focuses on the following projects at Karolinska Institutet:
Cancer epidemiology, both incidence and mortality, with particular emphasis
on breast, cancer and prostate sites. My interest is to study etiological factors affecting
cancer occurences as well survival from the diagnosis.
